When Ervin Krajčovič (KTM) rolls up behind the startline for round two of the 2025 FIM Flat Track World Championship powered by HKC Koopmann, Anlas, Kineo and Blackburst this coming Saturday (14 June) at Meissen in Germany, the current series leader knows consistency is key and while he will not be able to win the title so early in the season, he could certainly lose it.
I want to finish the season without injuries,” he said. “If you get injured or don’t finish even one race you could be out of the fight for the title, but also for all the top positions. The series is strong and even a small mistake can ruin all your efforts so, yes, I need to be consistent and hopefully that will bring me the result that I want.

The result that the thirty-four-year-old Czech star wants is to regain the title he so narrowly lost last season to his American rival Sammy Halbert and he is not cutting any corners to achieve his goal.

For the last three seasons I have had the opportunity to prepare at the Olymp facility with the speedway racers. I work hard during the winter and usually have my first Flat Track ride in March, usually together with [Czech Flat Track racer] Ondřej Švédík. We push each other in training, share tips and motivate each other.

After winning the title in 2023, the Prague-born racer engaged in a season-long battle with Halbert and despite finishing on the top step of the podium at the last two Grand Finals of the year he ultimately came up just four points short of claiming back-to-back crowns.

Sammy was leading and of course there was a bit of a gap between me and him before the last two races, but I knew I had enough speed and I had to put pressure on him to have at least a small chance of retaining the title. So I gave it my all and the last races were really good for me because of that determination.

Of course, I felt disappointed, although I know where I lost points, and I learned from that. Last year I finally won my first FIM Flat Track World Championship Grand Final and I was the first Czech rider to win a [Flat Track] Grand Prix on home soil in Pardubice. Those emotions were perhaps bigger for me than winning the entire series so in the end there were ups and downs and when I add it all up, it was a positive year.

Despite falling in the Heats, Krajčovič got his 2025 campaign off to a victorious start last month at Terenzano in Italy to extend his Grand Final win-streak to three. With five rounds remaining there is still a long way to go, and with the 2025 season due to sign off in Pardubice in September the possibility of winning the title in front of his home fans is a huge motivation.

Even just thinking about it gives me goosebumps. Yes, that is one of my biggest motivations this season. The race in Pardubice is always special – a weekend full of great racing, lots of spectators, my family and friends in the stands – and I have experienced a lot of milestones in terms of Flat Track racing in Pardubice.

I had my first top-five finish there in 2021, my first-ever podium in 2022 and my first-ever victory last year so it has a special place for me in the calendar. I really feel the pressure of the home race and maybe it is something that drives me even more. However, we still have a lot of races to go and a lot of things can happen before Pardubice.
